LJ Create an ICT Impact in India

e-India at Hyderabad is the biggest ICT show in India. LJ Create were proud to attend the show in August 2009 and demonstrate to delegates how interactive whiteboards, student response systems, interactive curriculum resources and computer simulations can be used as part of their future lessons.

Rt. Hon. Charles Clarke, MP (former UK Education Minister and Home Secretary) addressed delegates at the opening session e-India:

Rt. Hon. Charles Clarke MP

“In many parts of the world, including in the United Kingdom, the traditional blackboard in the classroom has been replaced by the electronic whiteboard. Personal computers and laptops are now universal…

High quality tools (hardware) have to be put together with high quality educational content (software) and high quality professional teaching and continuing professional development to deliver the outcomes we seek.”

Traditional teaching in India has a number of constraints that were discussed during the show;

  • It is difficult to tell if all the students in a class have understood the topic that the teacher presents without asking every student individually questions about the topic.
  • Cost restraints mean that there is often not enough equipment for students to carry out practical activities concurrently.
  • Blackboards can only display static images and text that take time to prepare during each lesson.

LJ Create joined forces with Promethean to demonstrate to delegates from all over India (and other countries) how schools in the UK are using the combination of hardware and computer software technology, highlighted in Mr. Clarke’s speech, to provide a solution for some of the constraints of traditional teaching.

  • Promethean’s ActivRemote student response systems were used to demonstrate how all the students in a class can respond to questions at the same time. All the students' responses are tracked and assessed. The system allows all the students to respond at the same time allowing even the quietest students a chance to answer the questions.
  • LJ Create’s software simulators were demonstrated as a method of allowing students to experience realistic science and engineering experiments and reduce the bottle necks with practical experiment equipment.
  • Promethean’s ActivBoard interactive whiteboard was used along side LJ Create’s interactive curriculum resources and simulators to demonstrate key engineering principles as a dynamic and engaging alternative to the conventional blackboard.
Students crowd round the Promethean ActivBoard electronic whiteboard, waiting to try out some of LJ Create's interactive computer software simulations from the Scantek Engineering range.

Yogendra Kalavalapalli of ‘The Hindu’ newspaper said “Covering a wide range of areas like mechanical, hydraulics, telecommunications, management systems, electrical systems, robotics, automotive, electronics, networking systems, information technology, digital photography, computer programming, digital audio technology, skyscraper and earthquake simulator, bridge design and building kit, LJ Create’s learning resources are engaging and fun to learn.”
