Direct correlations benefit students

At the Washington County Careers Center in Marietta, Ohio staff and students are very excited about their new IT2000 facility. We spoke to center Director, Mr. Dennis Blatt about their new program and in particular its links to ITWORKS Ohio.

"We are very excited about having IT2000 here at the career centre, we understand the need from employers for students with a knowledge of information technology, particularly in Ohio."

"We believe that this Business Academy we have put together, using the IT2000 modules, will give our students an excellent understanding and background of all four strands of information technology, Information Systems and Support, Network Systems, Programming and Software Development and Interactive Media."

"They will then have an option, once they have been through the introductory modules, to select an area to specialize in and once they have the basic knowledge they will be able to articulate into Washington State Community College or other technical or four-year colleges."

"One of the reasons we became interested in IT2000 is that the ITWORKS Ohio competencies were built into the program’s curriculum from the start."

"That was one of the major benefits of the program, our teachers were very excited and also the students, by the way that the modules are presented, with lots of 'hands-on' where students are actively engaged in the learning."

"It suits today’s students where they want to be active not passive learners and through working with the modules they are active. The more knowledgeable can move forward at their own pace and those that need to take more time can do so to achieve the competencies that they lack."

"Our Advisory Committee is very excited by this new program. About three years ago we began discussions about including information technology at Washington County Careers Center and we now have explored the options that were available."

"They are excited about IT2000 because they see the need to provide a foundation in which students of this age gain an understanding of information technology so that they can go on and be successful in employment."
