Simulator - Virtual Microscope (US)
The Virtual Microscope has been specifically designed to provide an easy to use simulation of a typical optical microscope. It allows the teachers and students to perform the following operations in exactly the same way they would using a real scientific microscope:
- Remove any existing slide.
- Select a slide from either a list of prepared slides, blank slides, or a calibration slide.
- If necessary, lower stage so there is sufficient room to secure a new slide onto stage using clips.
- Ensure appropriate illumination of the subject (turn on/off and set aperture).
- Choose between low, mid and high magnification lenses – 40X, 100X, 400X. (Achieved using 10X eye piece with either 4X, 10X, or 40X objective lenses.)
- Adjust slide position (to see different parts of specimen) and focusing (coarse and fine controls) for each magnification lens.
- Observe collision between lens and stage if the lens is rotated and stage is too high.
- Observe slide damage if highest magnification lens is used and the stage is forced against lens.
- Measure specimens using the eye piece micrometer.
- Determine the calibration factor using an eye piece micrometer.
