Study Guide for CompTIA A+® Certification
ITC9
This module provides a knowledge assessment and testing program designed to help students prepare for the CompTIA A+® Certification exams.
CompTIA A+® Certification is often sought by those who wish to pursue a career troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining personal computers that use the Windows® operating system.
The module is also a complete study guide for those who wish to update their knowledge of working with personal computers but do not intend entering themselves for the certification exams.
The module is based on a CompTIA A+® Certification textbook and CD-ROM and includes on-screen study guidance, topic reviews, knowledge tests and assessments, and practice exams.
As students work through the module, the instructor can use the optional ClassAct management system to track student
progress and assess performance.
When students are confident of their level of knowledge they can complete a series of simulated tests in exam conditions. These tests ensure that students are fully prepared to enter themselves for the real CompTIA A+® Certification Essentials and Practical Application exams.
Activities:
- Examining the range and nature of the CompTIA certifications
- Examining the scope of knowledge required to gain CompTIA A+® Certification
- Reviewing topics using PowerPoint® presentations
- Completing a range of tests to assess readiness for taking exams
- Carrying out extra study using the textbook
- Answering questions in simulated certification exam conditions
Course outline:
Students first examine the curriculum textbook and the structure of the module. They can then assess the amount and nature of work required and make a plan for studying.
This is followed by a series of PowerPoint® presentations. Questions in the presentations and a series of instructor marked activities test and record the student’s broad knowledge of working with personal computers and peripherals.
The students then work through the textbook chapters and tests at a depth appropriate to the level of knowledge that they have demonstrated.
Students finally complete two practice tests, one based on the Essentials exam, the other based on the Practical Application exam.
At each stage the student responds to questions that can be used to assess their level of knowledge, and provide guidance on where further study is required.
Activities are also provided for the student to make and record their plans for study, and these are available for instructor review and approval. The plans will vary according to the different levels of knowledge of each individual.
Based on the student’s performance, and with their Instructor’s guidance, he or she can decide whether they are ready to attempt the CompTIA A+® Certification exams at a testing center.
Monitoring progress and performance:
An electronic student workbook is provided to allow student note-taking. The instructor can use this to monitor student progress.
On completion of each section of work, students may also print out a report of test scores.
Alternatively, the teacher may use the optional ClassAct management system to record, score and report on the results of each test.
If the instructor chooses to deliver the PowerPoint presentations from the front of class, the optional ClassAct®SRS student response system will allow students to answer questions using SRS keypads.
