Analog and Digital Motor Control
CA06
This teaching set introduces students to the fundamental principles of analog and digital motor control, through a wide range of practical activities. It includes the following items:
- DC Motor Control Module
- Command Potentiometer
- 4 mm Lead Set
- Power Supply
- Virtual Control Laboratory Teaching Package, comprising:
- Analog and Digital Motor Control Curriculum Manual
- Instructor’s Manual
- Student Workbook Paper Master
- Control Interface Module
- PC Connection Cable
- Windows-based Virtual Control Laboratory software
The Virtual Control Laboratory Teaching Package that is supplied with the set includes the Analog and Digital Motor Control Curriculum Manual, which allows students to investigate, using a PC-based virtual analog/digital controller with virtual instrumentation, the following areas of motor-control theory:
- Time and frequency response
- Proportional position control
- Proportional position control with velocity feedback
- Stability
- Analog and digital interfacing
- Feedback principles
- Second-order system behavior
- PID control
- Computer and digital control
This curriculum manual is fully compatible with the ClassAct computer-managed learning system. It is divided into a series of chapters, each covering a specific topic area and providing background theory, practical activities and student assessment questions. An Instructor’s guide provides solutions to all the assessment questions.
Also included in the Virtual Control Laboratory Teaching Package is the CLIO Control Laboratory input/output Interface Module and PC-based VCL software. These enable a PC to perform as an analog/digital controller, a virtual instrumentation device (voltmeter, signal generator, and oscilloscope) and a virtual plant simulator.
The following experiments can be carried out using the VCL Control Package:
- Analog Control - Equipment Overview
- Introduction to Control Systems
- Time Response
- Frequency Response
- Principles of Feedback
- Proportional Position Control
- Behavior of Second-Order Systems
- Position Control with Velocity Feedback
- Three-Term or PID Control
- Stability
- The Use of Computers for Control
- Analog Interfacing
- Direct Digital Control
- Digital Interfacing
