This teaching system introduces students to programmable controllers through a range of practical activities that are based on an advanced pneumatic/electronic applications trainer. It provides the following features:
- Industry-standard programmable controller, remote programming software and interface cable
- Advanced pneumatic/electronic applications trainer
- Electrically-operated air-compressor
- Curriculum manual, student workbook and instructor’s manual
The programmable controller provides a minimum of 12 inputs and 12 outputs and carries a comprehensive range of on-board facilities, including timers, counters, and sequencer functions.
The controller is supplied complete with Windows-based remote programming software, this is used to program, monitor, edit and troubleshoot sequences for each of the practical exercises provided in the curriculum manual. An interface cable that connects the computer to the controller for downloading programs is also included.
The applications trainer incorporates many of the features of a modern, automated production plant, including:
- A selection of parts, some inside and some outside specification
- A parts dispenser for storage of parts prior to processing
- Two conveyor belts for movement of parts through the controlled process
- A pneumatic pick-and-place cylinder for placing parts on, and removing them from the conveyors
- An electrically-operated carriage for movement of the pick-and-place cylinder between the conveyors
- A pneumatically-activated gripper arm for transfer of parts from one conveyor to the other
- A range of pneumatic and opto-electronic sensors fitted at various points along the conveyors
- Green and red storage bins for separation of good and reject parts
A comprehensive curriculum manual is also included. This is compatible with a computer-based classroom management system and covers the following topics:
