The Mobile Elementary Science Resource
Living with Science provides a complete mobile resource that can be used to support the teaching of Science at grade levels 1-4. All the teaching material is delivered using dynamic multimedia computer aided instruction. This incorporates continuous assessment and links directly to printed experiment sheets that are completed by the students as they perform their experiments.
Hands on Experiments
All the hands-on experiments are supported by specially designed apparatus that is managed by a system of numbered storage trays supplied in a large mobile trolley.
Teachers are able to use the materials for whole class teaching using a data projector and our optional virtual whiteboard and wireless classroom assessment system. This creates an exciting interactive learning environment where whole class groups are able to interact with the computer-based presentations.
How Does Living With Science Work?
Living with Science provides stuctured support for existing science teaching in the elementary grades. We have four modules with 64 assignments covering the grade levels 1-4.
- Hands-on activities using hardware Each of the modules in the LWS range has a series of 16 assignments. Hands-on activities are a feature of each module.
- Multimedia CAIComputer Aided Instruction (CAI) is provided with each LWS module. This provides guidance for the program, explanation of scientific phenomena and is directly linked to the computer managed learning assessment and tracking system.
- Automatic AssessmentAt the end of each assignment, students 'hand-in' their work on the computer. It is automatically collected and marked by the computer managed learning system (ClassAct).
- Printed lab Inquiry SheetsDuring experiments or investigation, students are asked to complete lab inquiry sheets that are printed out from the assignment software.
- Teacher's GuidesTeacher's guides detail all experiments carried out in the module and provide solutions to all exercises, tests and assessments.
- Reading SupportFor lower ability readers we have created a 'Worksheet Reader'. This narrates all the sections of the worksheet at the click of the mouse.
- Spanish Language SupportEach of the for LWS modules has an optional Spanish language support package.
- Equipment StorageEach module is supplied complete with all the equipment needed by the students. A mobile storage unit is provided with each module.
- ClassActThis computer managed learning system provides an ideal tool for assessing the performance of your science program. ClassAct will automatically grade each student's work and it can then produce a detailed report that can be correlated to the National Science Standards.
- On-Line Question BankThis support package for your LWS program enables you to create multiple choice tests from a bank of over 400 test questions. The questions have been correlated to the NSES Science Standards and create tests that provide students with an excellent practice vehicle for preparation of standardized testing in science.
