Addressing Common Core with Digital STEM

Digital STEM is an exciting new, media rich, STEM eLearning resource from LJ Create. Digital STEM allows you to teach science while automatically including the coverage of the New York City Science and Common Core Standards in your lessons.

Digital STEM features a number of real-world scenarios for students to investigate, including topics such as modern transportation and green energy requirements. Students not only apply science to the problems, but also Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, which go hand-in-hand with science in creating solutions to problems in the world outside the classroom.

Common Core Standards are included within the ready-made science lessons. An easy-to-use menu system allows you to select a Common Core Standard objective and shows you which lessons include applicable work to cover the selected objective.

Each topic is related to the New York standards for sience, and the national Common Core Standards. You can select a topic based upon which of the standards you wish to cover, or by the science topic. Once the science topic is selected, you can then use the "Standards" tab to see which of the standards are connected with the selected piece of work.

The following example shows a question designed to evaluate the students' ability to make an hypothesis. In this example, the material is being viewed by a teacher, so extra notes are displayed to give the teacher some guidance on how to mark the students' work.

 

The question is linked to specific Common Core Standards. In the example, the Common Core Standard for Literacy is covered, with a specific skill of writing arguments.

 

This standard is available to view directly within the teacher's software.
