Why do I receive a Windows error when using the eContent system?

A ‘bug’ within a Windows component (the Microsoft 'comctrl32.ocx' hierarchical tree control) can cause some applications to crash with an ‘Application Fault’ if a pen/tablet device has been installed. This behaviour has been observed on Windows XP Tablet edition and Windows Vista. (The bug does not appear to affect the standard edition of Window XP).

The hierarchical tree control is used during selection and operation of eContent material and can affect the following applications:

  • ClassAct NT
  • ClassAct Student Workstation
  • Stand-Alone Student eContent Launcher Version
  • Stand-Alone Tutor eContent Browser

The same control is also used during installation/configuration of eContent material.

A patch is available that updates all the above applications to workaround the issue – see SYS1109 for more information.
