Eastleigh Consortium, Hampshire

LJ Create are working with many of the Gateway 1 Consortia, an example of which is the Eastleigh Consortium in Hampshire.

Engineering Classroom

They acquired our integrated engineering programme to support their pilot of the Diploma in 2008. The programme includes modules for teaching electronics, communications, robotics, mechanical science, pneumatics, hydraulics, industrial control, materials science and motor vehicle engineering.

We have installed these resources into brand new rooms at Eastleigh College where they will be used to teach young people from a group of local schools which are partnering the College in delivery of this exciting new qualification.

The collaboration between the schools and the College, in preparation for the pilot in September, will be further strengthened by the addition of LJ Create ‘portal’ software which will enable teachers to deliver engineering remotely across the Internet. This software will enable learners to access theory presentations and simulations of each of the main hardware modules and assignments (requiring learner input) from any Internet-enabled PC. Course tutors will be able to track and manage students’ progress using these facilities, even when they are away from the classrooms at Eastleigh College.

Our solutions were chosen for the ‘hub’ classrooms because of the relevance of
the incorporated curriculum to the requirements of the engineering diploma at all three levels. The computer-delivered curriculum and opportunities for hands-on practical work as well as ‘academic’/software based investigations also brings great benefits when used for the diploma and other engineering courses.
